It's been 25 years since Toyota opened up a plant in Georgetown, Kentucky and there are 6,600 employees grateful for the fact. Even with the struggling economy and all of the troubles facing modern automakers, not a single employee has been laid off.
Speaking towards the success of Toyota Manufacturing is Susan Whitney, a group leader for Body Operations saying "I did not set a goal to work 25 years (at the plant) and now that I look back at all the things I've seen and been associated with, I'm really proud". Susan, who was hired to work at the plant one month before production began, went on to say "It's been a great experience"1
Rick Hesterberg, a Toyota Spokesman says "Our approach is very different than what you think of when companies have a downturn, but we kept our doors open, ?" With Toyota committing themselves to expanding production efforts in not just Kentucky but all of North America, their efforts have certainly pleased the employees at the manufacturing plant in Kentucky.
In addition to the eminent job security at Toyota Manufacturing, there are a few other reasons as to why employees at Toyota are so psyched about their jobs. Donating money to local schools, charities and nonprofit organizations, Toyota has allowed their employees to contribute to great local causes.
